GDC 2020 NARRATIVE REVIEW GOLD WINNER
During the Fall of 2020, I wrote an extensive analysis of the narrative of the game Papers, Please for the GDC Narrative Review Competition. In my analysis, I examined how both the gameplay and the aesthetics allowed the game to provide a vast amount of historical storytelling as well as the overall narrative's function and place in the game itself. One of the key skills I was able to demonstrate with the competition is my ability to analytically examine the narrative in a game to better understand what's working and what's not. As a result, I was named one of the Gold Winners of the competition out of competitors from all over the country. I also became the first University of Utah student to win the competition.
